Explanation of the conversion: I gave Wheeljack a laser weapon. His Flight only works in robot
mode, whereas his wheels and hydrofoils only work in vehicle mode. Although this write-up is meant to represent his
Generation One form, it also works for his Cybertonian form. His form in the Devil's Due comics is identical to his Generation
One form.
History (Dreamwave comics): When civil war broke out on the planet Cybertron between the Autobots and Decepticons,
Wheeljack joined the Autobot cause.
Wheeljack was present under the command of Grimlock at the battle of Altihex where the Autobot Overhaul was killed
and Decepticon Seekers Thundercracker and Skywarp destroyed a a transport full of neutral Cybertonians. Unable to save
the city, the Autobot helped evacuate civilians (Transformers: The War Within #1).
When Decepticon leader Megatron and Autobot leader Optimus
Prime disappeared in an accident with a space bridge, the Autobot and Decepticon forces splintered into smaller
factions. Wheeljack joined the Lightning Strike Coalition under the leadership of Grimlock.
Grimlock lead L.S.C. members Ironhide, Kup, Slag, Sludge, Snarl, Swoop and Wheeljack in stealing a shipment of energon from
Starscream and the Predacons at the Moon Alpha Space Port (Transformers: The War Within - The Dark Ages #1).
Six million years ago, Ultra Magnus united the Autobot factions and lead them to victory over Decepticon and Ultracon
factions, although Starscream's Predacons continued to fight. Megatron returned to Cybertron in command of the clone
forces of the Aerospace Extermination Squadron and took over Cybertron (Transformers: War Within - The Age of Wrath #1).
Wheeljack was among the Autobots enslaved under the rule of Megatron, until Optimus Prime returned to Cybertron and
freed the Autobots.
Wheeljack was among the Autobots who followed Optimus Prime on his mission on board the
Ark. They were attacked by Megatron's ship, the Nemesis. After being boarded the Ark crash landed on Earth, where all on
board were preserved in emergency stasis.
In 1984, when the Ark's computer re-activated, it reformatted Wheeljack as in the form of an Earth car.
Eventually the combined forces of the Autobots on Earth, and their human allies were able to capture the Decepticons. A
ship called the Ark II was built to take the Cybertonians back to Cybertron, along with some human companions, but the
ship exploded shortly after takeoff. The human allies were killed, but the Cybertonians were lost in the ocean, again in
statis lock.
After Spike Witwicky used a piece of the Matrix to revive Optimus Prime, Optimus traveled to the remote shoreline where
he was recovered and used the Matrix to revive Jazz, Mirage, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Superion, Trailbreaker and Wheelkack
(Transformers: Generation One #2).
In 2003 the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth were drawn into conflict in Alaska, where they were interrupted by a
taskforce from Cybertron lead by Shockwave. Among Shockwave's troops were Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Broadside, Octane and Sandstorm. They announced that the war had ended on Cybertron
and that Megatron and Optimus Prime's troops were all criminals for their violent acts. Shockwave severely injured
Megatron and took the other Decepticons on his shuttle, as the Autobots retreated to the Ark. Ironhide was treated for
injuries received in the battle by Ratchet. Blitzwing joined up with a second team from Cybertron lead by Ultra Magnus,
followed by Dirge, Ramjet the Thrust. They faced the Autobots at the
crash site of the Ark. As the Decepticons traveled to Cybertron, Starscream ejected the
wounded Megatron into deep space (Transformers Generation One II #1).
When Ultra Magnus came to Earth claiming that the Earth-based Autobots were Cybertonian criminals Optimus Prime surrendered
and with the majority of Autobots returned to Cybertron. Jazz was left in charge of the Ark, with Brawn, Ratchet,
Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack and Windcharger assigned to him.
Returning to Earth with the Combaticons, Starscream reformatted them into Earth-style vehicles and attacked the
Autobots remaining on Earth. Forming Bruticus, the Combaticons defeated Jazz, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack and
Windcharger. Only Ratchet and Brawn escaped capture, but as they made their way back to the Ark, they discovered it's
defenses on automatic, and had to fight their way inside. Bruticus followed them and Ratchet had to destroy the Ark in
failed attempt to destroy Bruticus. Starscream eventually captured Ratchet and Brawn, right as an Autobot shuttle and
Sunstorm arrived on Earth (Transformers: Generation One III #1).
Jazz, Warpath, Bumper, Sideswipe and
Sunstreaker rejoined the Windcharger and Wheeljack, who were repaired by the Earth
Defense Command. They all rejoined Ratchet on board the Autobot ship Orion (Transformers: Generation One III #9).
Landing in Alaska, Wheeljack and the other Autobots met Prowl's team back from Cybertron. They were shown the site of
construction for the new Autobot City (Transformers: Generation One III #10).
History (Marvel comics): Under the order of Optimus Prime, Wheeljack used data taken from observing Devastator to create the Aerialbots.
Blaster and his fellow Autobots from Cybertron were then captured by Circuit Breaker and her Rapid Anti-Robot Attack Team,
taken to her lab and then disceted (Transformers #21-22).
Wheeljack was among the united Autobot and Decepticon forces who opposed Unicron's assault on
the planet Cybertron in 1991 (Transformers #75).
Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Wheeljack
is played by actor Chris Latta. A variation of the original Diaclone toy Wheeljack is based
on was painted like a pack of Marlboro cigarettes. Also, the number on the car was 598 instead of 539. Wheeljack was also
released as an Action Master in 1990, then reissued in Europe in 1992, then released as a Spychanger in 2004 and as an
Alternator in 2005.
Powers: Wheeljack is very intelligent, brave and incredibly skilled. Wheeljack can use the solid-fuel rockets in
his arms to fly at speeds of 320 mph with a range of 800 miles. His shoulder-mounted cannons shoot a variety of shells: a
magnetic-inducer shell, which douses its victims in a magnetic dust that attracts ferrous objects from distances up to
4000 feet away that adhere to and eventually disable the victim; a shrapnel-needle shell, which explodes into millions of
hair-thin filaments that can pierce even the strongest armor and disrupt internal circuitry; and a gyro-inhibitor shell,
which implants itself upon impact and destroys the balance of its victims. Wheeljack is continually adding new gimmicks to
his shells. He is also the Autobot most adept at driving while
in his automobile mode and has pulled off tricks that Hollywood stunt drivers haven't even dreamed of yet. He fully enjoys
showing off when the opportunity presents itself.
Wheeljack carries a laser, which he can operate in either form. He was outfitted with a special set of hydrofoils of his
own design for travel on water.
''That guy can build a neutron bomb out of a wristwatch and a rusty can,'' says Bluestreak, and that's not far from the
truth. As well as the Ark fashioned the Autobots, Wheeljack is always coming up with ways to improve them, particularly
their weaponry. His knack for creating wild new gadgets has earned him a ''mad scientist'' reputation and their deadly
effectiveness has earned him the respect of friends and enemies alike.
Weaknesses: Wheeljack is his own worst enemy. He frequently injures himself while experimenting with new weapons.
