Explanation of the conversion: I decided that Soundwave can be either giant or tiny at will, but he usually chooses to be large in robot form and tiny in cassette form. The Always On limitation on his size Multipower means he MUST choose to either be tiny or giant, no in-between. The two sets of characteristics represent his abilities in his two sizes.

History (Dreamwave comics): Soundwave was recruited as a Decepticon under the leadership of Megatron in his war against the Autobots on the planet Cybertron. He was made head of communications.

Soundwave When a new Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, was chosen, Soundwave was sent along with Shrapnel, Bombshell, Kickback and Ravage, to attempt to kill him and bring to Matrix to Megatron, but they failed, forcing Megatron to confront Optimus personally.

After Megatron and Optimus Prime were lost in an accident with a space bridge, the Decepticon forces splintered. Soundwave stayed with the Decepticons under the command of Shockwave.

Soundwave was chosen as a member of the crew of the Nemesis when Megatron launched it to attack the Ark, an Autobot ship. Both ships fought, and after the Decepticons boarded the Ark, it crashed on the planet Earth, where all on board were placed in emergency stasis lock for millions of years.

Soundwave In the Earth year 1984, a volcanic explosion awakened the Ark. It's computer, Teletran One, reformatted all on board to be able to assume the forms of Earth machines. Soundwave was given the form of a Sony Walkman cassette player.

''I will monitor transmissions and read Autobot electrical impulses to learn their plans. Even my photographic memory serves as a defensive weapon.'' - Soundwave

Eventually the combined forces of the Autobots on Earth, and their human allies were able to capture the Decepticons. A ship called the Ark II was built to take the Cybertonians back to Cybertron, along with some human companions, but the ship exploded shortly after takeoff. The human allies were killed, but Soundwave and the other Cybertonians were lost in the ocean, again in statis lock.

Soundwave and others were recovered by a rogue military unit and reprogrammed as slave war machines.

Grimlock, Bumblebee and Soundwave Bumblebee, Frenzy, Grimlock, Laserbeak, Prowl, Ravage, Soundwave and Starscream were forced at attack the Smitco oil refinery in the Arctic to display their power for sale to the highest bidder (Transformer: Generation One #2).

Megatron broke free and then freed his fellow Decepticons.

Returning to Earth under the command of Starscream, Skywarp, Soundwave and Thundercracker were captured by the Autobots and locked in cells on board the Ark. They escaped when the Ark was attacked by Bruticus (Transformers: Generation One III #1).

Soundwave It is said that Soundwave can hear a fly sneeze. It is also said that beneath his smooth-talking, affable surface beats the generator coil of a blackmailer. Those who know these two facts about him are very careful about what they say within earshot of him. Soundwave is the ultimate opportunist and will use anything he can to advance his status in the eyes of the Decepticon leader Megatron. He doesn't worry about what others think of him because he knows he is nearly indispensable. Although they all despise him, the other Decepticons pretend to like him rather than get on his bad side. As Rumble explains, "Soundwave always has the last laugh."

''Soundwave: superior. Constructicons: inferior.'' - Soundwave

Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Soundwave is played by actor Frank Welker. The toy of Soundwave was packaged along with Buzzsaw. The original Soundwave toy turned into a cassette, then he came out as an Action Master partnered with Wingthing. In Generation Two he was released as a Go-Bot car. He was released as a tank for the Machine Wars toy line. The toy of Soundwave is similar to the toy of Soundblaster. Soundwave should not be confused with Soundwave II, a Mutant who turns into an alligator or bat.

Soundwave Powers: Soundwave is a strong, smart and highly skilled Decepticon. His sensors can detect radio transmissions of the lowest energy levels. He can even "read minds" by monitoring the electrical impulses inside someone's brain circuitry, if he's standing nearby. He has long range radar capabilities.

He serves as the Decepticons' communications relay station - he can keep them all in radio contact with each other within a radius of 100 miles. His photographic memory is due to the immense information storage capacity of the magnetic disks in his chest. He carries a high-amplification directional radiowave sensor and a concussion blaster-gun. Soundwave can also fire intense blasts of electricity from his wrist. Soundwave is capable of flight in robot mode. Soundwave can change into a Sony Walkman cassette player and shrink to the size of one as well. He is skilled in repair, computer programming, and is a competant, if uncharismatic, leader.

Soundwave Soundwave also directly commands a number of Decepticons who transform into cassettes, like Ravage.

Weaknesses: Soundwave sometimes gets overconfident about his value to others. At times his hateful personality has resulted in retaliation from them, or worse yet, his abandonment during battle with the Autobots. So far, Soundwave has not only survived these incidents, but has seen to it that his betrayers pay for their actions. He is also slow compared to many of his fellow Decepticons.
