Explanation of the conversion: Sideswipe's photon rifle can be set to either burn or blind a target, so I made it
that using either power drains a Charge from the other. This conversion works for the original Sideswipe as well as the
Cybertonian and Generation Two versions.
History (Dreamwave comics): Sideswipe is the twin brother of Sunstreaker. Before the civil was between
the Autobots and the Decepticons, Sideswipe was a merchant. After the war broke out he joined the Autobots.
When Decepticon leader Megatron and Autobot leader Optimus
Prime disappeared in an accident with a space bridge, the Autobot and Decepticon forces splintered into smaller
factions. Sideswipe stayed with the Autobots under the leadership of Prowl.
Learning that the Decepticons were testing a new mobile command base at the Praetorus Wharf, Prowl lead Cliffjumper,
Gears, Jazz, Skids and Sideswipe to investigate. What they discovered was Trypticon
(Transformers: The War Within - The Dark Ages #3).
Sideswipe was among the Autobots who followed Optimus Prime on his mission on board the
Ark. They were attacked by Megatron's ship, the Nemesis. After being boarded the Ark crash landed on Earth, where all on
board were preserved in emergency stasis.
In 1984 a volcanic eruption awakened the Ark's computer, Teletran-1, and it repaired all on board. It reformatted Sideswipe
in the form of an Earth car.
Eventually the combined forces of the Autobots on Earth, and their human allies were able to capture the Decepticons. A
ship called the Ark II was built to take the Cybertonians back to Cybertron, along with some human companions, but the
ship exploded shortly after takeoff. The human allies were killed, but the Cybertonians were lost in the ocean, again in
statis lock.
After Spike Witwicky used a piece of the Matrix to revive Optimus Prime, Optimus traveled to the remote shoreline where
he was recovered and used the Matrix to revive Jazz, Mirage, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Superion,
Trailbreaker and Wheeljack
(Transformers: Generation One #2).
When Ultra Magnus came to Earth claiming that the Earth-based Autobots were Cybertonian criminals Optimus Prime surrendered
and with the majority of Autobots returned to Cybertron. Jazz was left in charge of the Ark, with Brawn, Ratchet,
Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack and Windcharger assigned to him.
Returning to Earth with the Combaticons, Starscream reformatted them into Earth-style vehicles and attacked the
Autobots remaining on Earth. Forming Bruticus, the Combaticons defeated Jazz, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack and
Windcharger. Only Ratchet and Brawn escaped capture, but as they made their way back to the Ark, they discovered it's
defenses on automatic, and had to fight their way inside. Bruticus followed them and Ratchet had to destroy the Ark in
failed attempt to destroy Bruticus. Starscream eventually captured Ratchet and Brawn, right as an Autobot shuttle and
Sunstorm arrived on Earth (Transformers: Generation One III #1).
Jazz, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were repaired by the Earth Defense Command.
Jazz commanded Sunstreaker, Sideswipe and Bumper in investigating the Insecticons for the
Earth Defense Command.
Jazz, Warpath, Bumper, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker rejoined Windcharger and Wheeljack, who were repaired by the Earth
Defense Command. They all rejoined Ratchet on board the Autobot ship Orion (Transformers: Generation One III #9).
Brawn, Grapple, Hoist, Jazz, Omega Supreme, Prowl, Red Alert, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were among the Autobots who
continued work on Autobot City (Transformers: Generation One III #13).
After the defeat of Megatron II the planet Cybertron was left reformatted into a techno-organic world.
On the reformatted techno-organic Cybertron Cheetor, Rattrap, Silverbolt III and Blackarachnia were interviewed by the
Autobot reporter Rook. They then welcomed the Autobots
Roulette, Shadowstriker, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker and Trailbreaker back to Cybertron. Buzzsaw III, Quickstrike II and Rockbuster were also present. The returning Autobots along with Blackarachnia and Silverbolt
III were then abducted via teleportation beams and taken to Unicron. Tap-Out, Megatron IV, Brawn, Grimlock and Snarl III were also abducted from various timelines.
Silverbolt III, Blackarachnia, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were forcibly reformatted by Unicron. Taken captive by Razorclaw
IV, Reptilion, Obsidian III, Tankor II and Striker, the Autobots were forced to fight one another. They witnessed
Smokescreen III kill Smokescreen, whose spark was absorbed by Unicron. Sensing the need for a champion Primus and Alpha
Trion brought Optimus Primal back to life (Transformers: Universe #1).
Sideswipe was among the Cybertonians kidnapped by Unicron. He escaped with a large number of his
fellow prisoners thanks to Optimus Primal and returned to Cybertron (Transformers:
Universe #2).
Although nearly as capable as his twin brother Sunstreaker in the combat arts, Sideswipe is far less coldblooded about it.
He thoroughly relishes engaging an opponent in a fight to the finish, and will use any dirty underhanded tactic he can think of to come out on top. Back on his homeworld of Cybertron this conduct extended itself to the rest of his lifestyle: getting what he can out of life, enjoying it to the fullest, and cheating to get the rest. His exile to Earth hasn't changed his behavior, just his cause - now instead of doing everything for himself he does it for the sake of freedom for all. Personal safety takes a backseat to his reckless, but brave actions.
Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Sideswipe
is played by actor Michael Bell. Besides his original toy form, Sideswipe
was released as an Action Master, as a Generation Two toy in black and as a Generation Two Go-Bot.
Powers: Sideswipe is nearly fearless. In Autobot mode, Sideswipe's two arms can be used as piledrivers. Each exerts
8000 pounds of force upon impact - with up to five impacts per second, making him particularly useful in close combat and
for breaking through fortifications. A rocket back-pack can sustain him in the air for two minute spurts before refueling
is necessary. When launched, two shoulder-mounted magnesium phosphorous flares can each be seen from a distance of 18
miles on a clear night. He also has special night vision abilities.
Sideswipe was outfitted with a pair of hydrofoils for travel on Earth's bodies of water by Wheeljack.
Weaknesses: If it weren't for his rash behavior, Sideswipe wouldn't have any serious weaknesses other than his low
firepower, but as he often acts without consideration of the consequences and takes a special delight in plunging into
extremely dangerous situations, Sideswipe, more than any other Autobot, finds himself being patched together by Chief
Medical Officer Ratchet. Naturally, he takes his injuries in stride.
