Explanation of the conversion: Since Bruticus is impervious to radiation, I decided all his component robots should
be too. Although this write-up is intended to represent his Generation One form, it also works for his Cybertonian and
Generation Two form.
History (Dreamwave comics): Onslaught was recruited as a Decepticon under the leadership of Megatron in his war against the Autobots on the planet Cybertron.
Shockwave lead the Decepticon attack on the Autobot capitol of Iacon 8.2 million years ago. Among his troops were
Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Bludgeon, Brawl,
Chopshop, Dirge, Frenzy, Octane, Onslaught, Ramjet, Tantrum, Venom and
Vortex.
Onslaught was teamed up with fellow Decepticons Brawl, Swindle,
Vortex and Blast Off in at attempt to duplicate the success in creating the combiner robot
named Devastator. Their team was called the Combaticons and the united form for the five was
created called Bruticus.
After the Great Shutdown the Combaticons were locked away in a detention center, being seen as too dangerous to allow to
run loose. They were freed by Starscream, who planned to use them to conquor Earth.
Returning to Earth with the Combaticons, Starscream reformatted them into Earth-style
vehicles and attacked the Autobots remaining on Earth. Forming Bruticus, the Combaticons defeated Jazz, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack and Windcharger. Only Ratchet and Brawn escaped capture,
but as they made their way back to the Ark, they discovered it's
defenses on automatic, and had to fight their way inside. Bruticus followed them and Ratchet had to destroy the Ark in
failed attempt to destroy Bruticus. Starscream eventually captured Ratchet and Brawn, right as an Autobot shuttle and
Sunstorm arrived on Earth (Transformers: Generation One III #1).
Starscream took the Combaticons to an island where they were to train with their prisoner, the Autobot Sky Lynx. They were
attacked by Predaking under the command of Megatron. Predaking defeated Bruticus and Starscream retreated to the Nemesis,
where he found Megatron waiting for him (Transformers: Generation One III #10).
History (Marvel comics): The Combaticons were created on Earth in 1987 by Megatron when
he used one of Bombshell's cerebro-shells to tap into Optimus Prime's Matrix. When Prime
used the Matrix to create the Protectabots, Megatron created the Combaticons.
Perfection is what Onslaught seeks. He believes the key to a mission's success lies in its planning, not in its execution.
Thus, a perfect plan virtually guarantees a victory. Onslaught prefers the intellectual battlegrounds of the mind, where
he can carefully devise and polish his sinister schemes, to the physical battlegrounds of the war, where events don't
always unfold as expected. The four Combaticons under his command consider him aloof, even dreamy, but a brilliant
tactician. Typically, Onslaught takes a backseat role in the assaults he plots, choosing to observe and re-evaluate his
strategy rather than actually engage in combat, but, when stirred to action, he is a relentless, furious fighter, a
terrifying contrast to the reserved thinker he is otherwise. This side of Onslaught's personality comes as a surprise to
most of the other Decepticons, but those who understand him know his violent behavior is born out of frustration that his
plan didn't work, forcing his involvement, rather than any suppressed lust for battle hidden in his character.
Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Onslaught
is played by actor Steve Bulen. Besides the original form Onslaught took,
he was also released as a Generation Two toy. The toy of Onslaught was released in versions with a metal chest or with a
plastic chest. The toy of Onslaught is similar to that of Mega-Octane.
Some knockoffs of Onslaught made by other companies were larger or smaller than the original.
He has also been remolded into a red firetruck and into a green dumptruck for some knockoffs.
Powers: Onslaught in very strong, brave and highly skilled. He has the ability to turn into a missile truck or an assault base. In missile trailer mode,
Onslaught can reach speeds of 100 mph. His range is 2,400 miles. He can launch photon missiles, with a range of 6,500
miles. Each missile contains three independently targetable shells, each of which has an explosive force equivalent to
3,000 tons of TNT.
In robot mode, he uses a sonic stun gun, which is capable of crumbling a hillside with one blast. He forms the torso and
head when he combines with his fellow Combaticons Brawl, Swindle, Vortex and Blast Off to form the giant robot,
Bruticus. In base mode he can combine with Trypticon and Motormaster to form a larger base.
Weaknesses: Onslaught often puts too much faith in his plans and winds up going along with them longer than he should. Consequently, he
doesn't get personally involved as quickly as changing situations might warrant. Electromagnetic interference can impair
the accurate targeting and delivery of his missiles. He also isn't very fast in any form.
