Explanation of the conversion:
History: Reed Richards was born in Central City, California, the only son of wealthy physicist Nathaniel
Richards and his wife Evelyn, was a child prodigy with special aptitude in
mathematics, physics, and mechanics. Evelyn died when Reed was seven.
Nathaniel encouraged and guided young Reed in his scientific studies, and
Reed was taking college-level courses by the time he was fourteen. He
attended several universities.
It was at State University in Hegeman, New York, that Reed Richards first
met two of the most important individuals in his life. He was assigned to
room with a foreign student, a scientific genius named Victor von Doom.
The imperious von Doom, taking an immediate dislike to Richards, decided
to take other quarters. As Doctor Doom, von Doom would later become
Richards' greatest rival and enemy. Richards instead gained as his
roommate former high school football star Benjamin J. Grimm, who became
Richards' closest friend. Richards was already intending to build a
starship for interstellar travel. When he told this ambition to Grimm,
Grimm jokingly said that he would pilot the starship for Richards.
While attending Columbia University, Richards rented living quarters at the Manhattan boarding house owned by the aunt of a young girl named Susan Storm. Though she was still only a child, no more than twelve years old, Susan fell in love with the older Richards, much to his embarrassment.
During WWII Reed served in the O.S.S. behind enemy lines (mentioned in Fantastic Four #11).
Three years before Reed Richards tested his starship, his father
mysteriously disappeared. In fact, Nathaniel Richards had devised a time
machine which he had used to attempt to journey into the future. However,
the machine actually transported him to an alternate Earth with a history
considerably different from our own; Reed Richards would be reunited with
him while visiting this alternate Earth years later.
Richards recruited his old friend Ben Grimm, who had become a successful
test pilot and astronaut, to pilot the starship. Richards was joined in
California by Susan Storm, who was now an adult. Richards and Storm were
engaged to be married.
Shortly before the starship was to be launched, Richards used his
scientific knowledge to defeat the extraterrestrial being Gormuu, who had
intended to conquer Earth. Richards' encounter with Gormuu strengthened
his resolve to finish the starship, which he saw as a first step for
mankind to defend itself from extraterrestrial threats (recounted in Fantastic Four #271).
However, when the federal government threatened to withdraw its funding, Richards decided to test fly it himself. Though Grimm warned that the ship's shielding might be inadequate, Grimm, Susan, and her adolescent brother Johnny all chose to go. They intended to travel through hyperspace to another solar system and back. However, unknown to Richards, a solar flare caused Earth's Van Allen radiation belts to be filled temporarily with unprecedented, ultra-high levels of cosmic radiation. The intense cosmic rays irradiated the four passengers and wrought havoc on the ship's controls. Grimm was forced to abort the flight and return to Earth. Once back on Earth, the foursome discovered they'd been mutagenically altered by the cosmic rays. Ben was transformed into the orange stone-skinned Thing. Reed became the elastic bodied Mister Fantastic. Sue gained the ability to become invisible to the naked eye and became the Invisible Girl. Johnny gained powers
over fire and became the Human Torch II. Richards convinced the others that the four of them should use their new found powers for the good of humanity as members of a team he named the Fantastic Four. Reed first called the group together to investigate the destruction of several atomic plants. They traced the destruction attacks by monsters under control of the Mole Man and confronted him on Monster Island (Fantastic Four #1).

The Fantastic Four faced their most unusual threat ever when the Impossible Man came to Earth and caused all manner of chaos. Unable to defeat the Impossible Man, Reed decided the best way to get rid of the annoying alien was to ignore him. When the Impossible Man became board with Earth, he flew away. Reed then attempted to cure Ben of being the Thing with a serum he invented, but it only lasted a few minutes (Fantastic Four #11).
The Fantastic Four was then contacted by the army about trying to stop the incredible Hulk, who they blamed for sabotage in their missile testing. The Fantastic Four then flew in their new Fantasticar to a missile base in the south west where they met general Thunderbolt Ross, scientist Bruce Banner and his helper Rick Jones. At the time Bruce had an assistant named Doctor Karl Kort, who ended up being a saboteur called the Wrecker. The Wrecker kidnapped Rick and left a note for the Hulk that he had to get rid of the Fantastic Four if he wanted Rick back. Banner then changed himself into the Hulk and fought the Fantastic Four while looking for Rick. The Fantastic Four were able to find the Wrecker and saved Rick, so the Hulk left them. After a celebration over uncovering the saboteur, the Fantastic Four left the base (Fantastic Four #12).
Reed then invented a new super rocket fuel from fragments of a meteorite, which he used to build a ship that could take him to the moon. The rest of the Fantastic Four insisted on joining him. About the same time the Soviet scientist Ivan Kragoff planned to fly to the moon in a rocket he invented, aided by three trained apes. He also built his ship without any shielding, hoping to expose himself to cosmic rays and gain super powers like the Fantastic Four did. The two ships launched at the same time and Ivan and his apes gained super abilities. Ivan gained the ability to become immaterial at will and dubber himself the Red Ghost. Landing in the blue area of the moon the travelers discovered an abandoned city and the home of the mysterious Watcher. The Watcher insisted man's wars would not follow them to his home and had the two teams battle in the abandoned city. Reed was able to paralyze the Red Ghost with a ray he built, and then left the Red Ghost to his apes, who rebelled against him. The Fantastic Four
returned home (Fantastic Four #13).
While the stratigic value of Earth in the Kree/Skrull war had dropped so that it was no longer worth invading, the Skrull leadership felt it should take revenge on those who had opposed them on Earth. Commander Kl'rt was bionically engineered by Skrull scientists to mimic the powers of the Fantastic Four and dubbed him the Super-Skrull. The Fantastic Four defeated the Super-Skrull by cutting off him off from his powers (Fantastic Four #18).
The Fantastic Four used Doctor Doom's time machine to travel back in time where they met Rama-Tut, who captured them with a device which drained them of their powers. When Ben was chained up he turned human again and slipped out of his chains, but later on he returned to his stone-like form (Fantastic Four #19).
The Fantastic Four traveled to the Skrull Galaxy and they loose their powers. Reed bargained with the Skrulls and tells them he will create a device to help them conquer the Earth. Instead, he built a gun that restored their powers (Fantastic Four #37).
In a battle with the Frightful Four, the Fantastic Four were stranded on an atoll when the Wizard's Q-Bomb went. The four were saved by Sue's force field but the after effect is that they lost their powers (Fantastic Four #38).
In a climatic battle of the Baxter Building against Doctor Doom, Reed restored their powers using the device he created on the Skrull planet. Reed did not use it earlier because it was recharging after having been drained of energy (Fantastic Four #40).
Under Richards' leadership the Fantastic Four has become Earth's most honored team of superhuman adventurers, and has saved the world from conquest or destruction many times. Richards eventually married Susan Storm, and they now have a son, Franklin.
Once it was established that Bruce Banner's mind was in control of the Hulk's body, the Hulk was treated to a celebration in New York City where he received a presidential pardon from Ronald Reagan, the key to the city, and praise from a number of superheroes, including Mister Fantastic (Incredible Hulk #279).
Reed investigated the disappearance of the Thing when the Thing was invited to take on the Champion of the Universe in a fighting contest at Madison Square Garden (Marvel Two-In-One Annual #7).
After many years, Reed joined his wife in semi-retirement from their superhero career. They tried to raise their son Franklin in a relatively normal environment, but soon, Franklin was kidnapped by the villains Nanny and the Orphan-Maker at the same time that New York was undergoing a demonic invasion. Richards and his wife teamed up with the Captain and other heroes to reform the Avengers, which had then recently gone on hiatus. Richards, however, continually disrupted the Avengers' team dynamic with his natural penchant for leadership. Richards and his wife soon left the team and rejoined the Fantastic Four at their base.
Banished into the distant past by his son's nearly all-powerful offspring from a possible future, Reed was left doubtful and unsure of his actions until the sentient psionic being Onslaught threatened Franklin's life. His confidence restored, Reed helped engineer the menace's defeat. But the Fantastic Four appeared to perish in the effort, along with Earth's other great heroes. After returning from the pocket universe inadvertently created by his son, Reed quickly went to work restoring his team's financial status.
He was among the heroes incapacitated by Graviton when he attempted to take over the Earth once again (Thunderbolts #57).
Trivia: The origin of the Fantastic Four is a popular topic for stories of alternate realities. Their have been worlds where they didn't gain any powers at all, or they were killed while attempting to take the rocket. Even more interesting are worlds where they gained different powers all together. Their have been worlds where Reed gained Human Torch powers, became the Thing, where he gained the ability to turn objects invisible, where he became the villainous purple skinned Brute or where he became a disembodied brain with mental powers.
Powers: Mister Fantastic possesses the ability to convert the mass of his entire body into a highly malleable state at will. In such a state,
he can stretch, deform, expand, or compress his entire body or parts thereof into any contiguous shape he can imagine. He can extend his limbs, torso, or
neck to great distances: the maximum length he can distend before his body segments become painful is about 1,500 feet. (Although he can extend discrete
body parts, such as a single finger, an ear, or an eye, he seldom if ever isolates such parts in his elongations.) He can also extend his body in two
directions, creating a canopy, parachute, or sheath, its thickness determined by the extent of its distention. He has compressed his body into the shape
of a solid sphere, a cylinder, a cube, a toroid, and a rectangular prism: he can assume the shape of any solid that he can envision clearly, of a volume
no greater than 1.7 cubic feet (a sphere about 18 inches in diameter). He can generate thin-walled shapes that
enclose great volumes of space. Mister Fantastic can flatten himself to the thickness of an average sheet of typing paper (.0035 inch) or narrow himself

After his body absorbs the kinetic energy of a ballistic projectile's impact, he can expel the object back along its trajectory by flexing like a trampoline if he is adequately braced. He can enclose and absorb the energy of a large explosive, on the order of 8 to 12 pounds of TNT (excluding exotic, high density explosives). Such shocks to his system are physically exhausting.
Mister Fantastic's transformation to a malleable state is reflexive and nearly instantaneous: if he was at his normal form and taken unaware by machine gun fire, his body would still absorb the bullets' impact through radical deformation. Mister Fantastic's skin is virtually impervious to laceration or punctures unless he willfully relaxes his reflexive control over small areas of his body. In that case, scalpels and ordinary needles can penetrate his skin.
During a period where Reed lost his powers he has been known to utilize a set of extending gloves to simulate his stretching ability. When he was using the identity of the Invincible Man II he used a suit which utilized components taken from Psycho-Man's armor. The suit allowed him to hover, make himself unnoticed by others, and allowed him to influence others minds.
