Explanation of the conversion: Mirage's Flight Multipower slot only works in robot mode, whereas his Swimming and
Running slots only work in vehicle mode. Although intended to represent him in Generation One form, this write-up also
works for Mirage in Cybertonian form.
History (Dreamwave comics): When civil war broke out on the planet Cybertron between the Autobots and Decepticon
factions, Mirage joined the Autobot cause.
When Decepticon leader Megatron and Autobot leader Optimus
Prime disappeared in an accident with a space bridge, the Autobot and Decepticon forces splintered into smaller
factions. Mirage stayed with the Autobots under the leadership of Prowl.
When The Fallen attacked the Autobot base in order to capture Blitzwing, Mirage was among the Autobots who tried to stop him.
Mirage is among the Autobots who followed Optimus Prime on his mission on board the Ark and crash landed on Earth. In 1984,
when the Ark's computer re-activated, it reformatted Mirage as in the form of an Earth car.
''Frankly I'd rather be elsewhere hunting turbofoxes than with you roughnecks, but while we're here, my
electro-disruptor is charged up, it not only interfears with Decepticon circuitry, it also makes me appear to be where I'm
not, that why they call me Mirage.'' - Mirage, Transformers #1
Eventually the combined forces of the Autobots on Earth, and their human allies were able to capture the Decepticons. A
ship called the Ark II was built to take the Cybertonians back to Cybertron, along with some human companions, but the
ship exploded shortly after takeoff. The human allies were killed, but the Cybertonians were lost in the ocean, again in
statis lock.
After Spike Witwicky used a piece of the Matrix to revive Optimus Prime, Optimus traveled to the remote shoreline where
he was recovered and used the Matrix to revive Jazz, Mirage, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Superion, Trailbreaker and Wheeljack
(Transformers: Generation One #2).
Mirage is not thrilled about being with a bunch of rough-and-tumble freedom fighters like the Autobots. If he had a choice
would be in Monte Carlo, or better yet, back on his beloved Cybertron hunting turbofoxes with his high-priced friends.
Autobot leader Optimus Prime must constantly cajole him into continuing his service with the Autobots, but he feels it may be a losing battle. Despite his coolness to the cause, Mirage is a surprisingly effective and deadly fighter and an even more effective intelligence gatherer, which is the role he much prefers.
Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Mirage is
played by actor Frank Welker. Mirage was also released as a Generation
Two Go-Bot. Mirage shouldn't be confused with Mirage II, a Vehicon with a similar form.
Powers: Mirage is very smart. He carries a rear mounted electro-disruptor which is able to interfere with the
circuitry of an opponent by casting discrete packets of electrical charges at him. Hence, he never is situated where he
seems to be when it is in use, and can even use the disrupter to give himself the illusion of a different physical
appearance, which he can sustain for up to six minutes. All of this contributes to his effectiveness as an intelligence
agent. He can also hit a screwhead dead center from 200 yards with his armor-piercing hunting rifle. It shoots
liquid-fuel-powered darts. Mirage can shoot a grappling line from
his wrist. He sometimes utilizes a standard Autobot jet pack. He can travel on water in hydrofoil mode
thanks to modifications done by Wheeljack.
Weaknesses: He's unsure of the Autobots and their cause, and consequently cannot always be fully trusted. Optimus Prime is well aware
of his coolness to the group, but considers him too valuable to let go.
