Explanation of the conversion: Megatron can choose to remain small or large when he changes form, or even change
his size to some level in between, as seen occasionally in the television series. The two sets of Characteristics
represent Megatron and his smallest and largest sizes. I increased the range of his fusion cannon based on an issue of the
Image comics when it was used to shoot a sattelite out of orbit.
History (Dreamwave comics): Nine million years ago Megatron used a series of painful reformatting procedures to
increase his power. He became a gladiator in the Cybertonian city state of Kaon, where he became a star due to his brutal
fighting style.
Megatron came to realize the resurgance of the gladitorial games on Cybertron was due to manipluations of the Council of
Ancients, who seemed to want the public distracted. He also noticed the Council was secretly cordoning off areas of
ancient Cybertron for ''safety'' reasons. Megatron demanded to know why, but the Council forbid him from further
inquiry. Megatron went on a quest to discover what they were hiding and found evidence of Cybertron's ancestors, and
information that accepted Cybertonian history was a lie meant to cover some hidden past. An assassin from the Council
failed to kill Megatron and he used the news of this attempt to attract more of a following. He created an inner circle of
officers including Military Operations Commander Shockwave, Aerospace Commander Starscream and Communications Officer Soundwave. Megatron
recruited other gladiators and eventually masses of disgruntled Cybertonians to his Decepticon cause (recounted in
Transformers: Generation One III #10).
Megatron also considered Grimlock for his inner circle, but Grimlock didn't agree with
Megatron's way of doing things.
Eight point two million years ago, in an attempt to obtain the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, Megatron killed Autobot
leader Sentinel Prime, but discovered he didn't have the Matrix inside him. Megatron planned to use the Matrix to power
vast engines he found inside the planet Cybertron and turn the planet into a giant warship. A new Autobot leader was
chosen, Optimus Prime.
Megatron sent Soundwave, Shrapnel, Bombshell, Kickback and Ravage, to attempt to kill Optimus
and take the Matrix, but they failed, forcing Megatron to confront Optimus personally.
Megatron faced Optimus in combat deep in the planet. Damage
to the Matrix resulted in it showing Optimus and Megatron images of the future, but Megatron was defeated. Optimus left
Megatron alive, but injuries Optimus inflicted on Megatron caused him to loose his recent memories.
Seven point four million years ago Megatron and Optimus Prime were lost in an accident involving a space bridge
transporter. During their time away the Autobots and Decepticons broke up into smaller factions, the main Decepticon
forces lead by Shockwave. Starscream started the Predacon faction, Ratbat started the Ultracon faction and Bludgeon started the Chaos Trinity.
Six million years ago the Autobot factions were reunited under Ultra Magnus and they nearly achieved peace, when Megatron
and the Aerospace Extermination Squad from his new Quintesson allies returned and restarted the war. Megatron enslaved the
Autobots, but then Optimus Prime returned as well and freed his fellow Autobots.
Four million years ago Optimus Prime lead his ship, the Ark, to protect Cybertron from a meteor shower. Megatron left
Shockwave in charge of Cybertron as Megatron pursued the Ark. Megatron and his troops, including Ravage, Skywarp, Soundwave, Starscream and Thundercracker, attacked in his
flagship, the Nemesis. Megatron's crew boarded the Ark, which crashed on the planet Earth where it lay dormant for 4
millions of years, the Cybertonians in emergency stasis lock.
The Ark was only disturbed briefly by a small group of Predacons and Maximals, Cybertonians from the far future. A
Predacon named Megatron II first attempted to kill Optimus Prime to change the future, but
was stopped by a Maximal named Optimus Primal.
Megatron II then stole Megatron's spark to grant himself more power, but again Optimus Primal stopped him and returned the
spark.
In 1984, volcanic activity reawakened the Ark. Once reactivated the Ark reformatted all on
board with the ability to take on the forms of Earth machines. Megatron was able to take on the form of a Walther P-38
pistol.
Eventually Megatron's forces on Earth were joined by the Constructicons.
Knowing that transwarp technology was being developed on Cybertron, and that it was capable of moving through both space
and time, Megatron encoded a message onto the Golden Disk aboard a Voyager probe. In the message, he acknowledged the
possibility of losing the war, and that future generations of Decepticons should use the information on the disk and the
transwarp technology to help win the war (mentioned in The Agenda Part 2).
''This is Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, and if you're hearing this, it means I've failed, this time... mwahahaha, but I know that transwarp technology is being developed, so I leave this message to any Decepticon descendants that may find...'' - Megatron's message.
Eventually the combined forces of the Autobots on Earth, and their human allies were able to capture Megatron and his
Decepticons. A ship called the Ark II was built to take the Cybertonians back to Cybertron, along with some human
companions, but the ship exploded shortly after takeoff. The human allies were killed, but Megatron and the other
Cybertonians were lost in the ocean, again in statis lock.
Megatron and others were recovered by a rogue military unit and reprogrammed as slave war machines, but Megatron broke
free and then freed his fellow Decepticons and Grimlock.
In 2003 the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth were drawn into conflict in Alaska, where they were interrupted by a
taskforce from Cybertron lead by Shockwave. Among Shockwave's troops were Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Broadside, Octane and Sandstorm. They announced that the war had ended on Cybertron
and that Megatron and Optimus Prime's troops were all criminals for their violent acts. Shockwave severely injured
Megatron and took the other Decepticons on his shuttle, as the Autobots retreated to the Ark. Ironhide was treated for
injuries received in the battle by Ratchet. Blitzwing joined up with a second team from Cybertron lead by Ultra Magnus,
followed by Dirge, Ramjet the Thrust. They faced the Autobots at the
crash site of the Ark. As the Decepticons traveled to Cybertron, Starscream ejected the
wounded Megatron into deep space (Transformers Generation One II #1).
Megatron was discovered in floating in space by the Junkion named Wreck-Gar, who repaired Megatron and took him to the
planet of Junk. Wreck-Gar was tricked into repairing three clone Decepticon warriors to serve Megatron. Megatron repaid
this kindness by killing Wreck-Gar and taking his ship.
Megatron then discovered the Predacons Razorclaw, Rampage, Divebomb, Headstrong and Tantrum
on the planet Beast. He defeated them and reprogrammed them into being completely loyal to him. He also used the combiner
technology originally used to turn the Constructicons into Devastator to combine the
Predacons into the giant warrior Predaking.
Defeated by the Autobots on Cybertron, Shockwave was forced to set up a new secret headquarters in the wastelands of
Cybertron, with Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Dirge, Ramjet and Thrust following him. Shockwave completed work on his new
warrior, Sixshot. Megatron returned to Cybertron with three clone warriors and the Predacons
and was able to defeat Shockwave. Shockwave was kept alive, but restrained. All Shockwave's warriors except Blitzwing, who
was destroyed, joined up with Megatron in his plan to invade the Earth (Transformers: Generation One III #9).
Starscream took the Combaticons to an island where they were to train with their prisoner, the Autobot Sky Lynx. They were
attacked by Predaking under the command of Megatron. Predaking defeated Bruticus and Starscream retreated to the Nemesis,
where he found Megatron waiting for him (Transformers: Generation One III #10).
Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Megatron
is played by actor Frank Welker. The original Megatron toy turned into
a gun, then he came out as an Action Master. In Generation Two he was released as two different tanks and as a Go-Bot car. He was
released as a jet for the Machine Wars toy line. Megatron should not be confused with Megatron II, a Predacon who turns
into a dinosaur, alligator or dragon.
Powers: Megatron is incredibly powerful and intelligent, the equal of Autobot leader Optimus Prime. He is one of
the greatest hand-to-hand combatants and marks-mechs ever produced by the Cybertonian race. He has very keen senses and
can see in the infrared and ultraviolet range, as well as having telescopic vision. He is a keen planner, with
considerable skills in numerous fields, and is a natural born leader. Megatron is one of the most accomplished pit
fighters in Cybertron history. He also can fly.
His fusion cannon can convert any small amount of matter into large quantities of explosive nuclear energy. The cannon can
fire a blast up to 12 miles and release enough energy to flatten a small town. Megatron can use his internal circuitry to
connect the cannon interdimensionally with a black hole, where it can draw on anti-matter as its power source. The blast
from this is far greater, but it creates a tremendous strain on Megatron to do this for even one blast. He also has a secondary
laser weapon, which uses far less power, but is very deadly in it's own right. His right hand can convert into an energon mace
for enhanced hand-to-hand combat abilities. He can also generate powerful electrical discharged through his body, which he
usually channels through his hands as as weapon. He has been known to utilize a variety of swords and weapons of
opportunity when necessary.
Megatron has special equipment that allows him to read and reprogram other computers.
Note: In the television series Megatron once used a device of Scrapper's to temporarely
transfer the powers of other Decepticons to himself. He gained Rumble's ability to produce earthquakes, Thundercracker's
sonic powers, Skywarp's teleportation and Reflector's light producing power.
Weaknesses: Megatron has few known physical weaknesses. The only possible exceptions are his lack of speed and that
frequent use of his fusion cannon at full power can drain him. Megatron is vengeful, violent and feels taking power
from others by force is his destiny. On one occasion, an injury cause him loose his self will, making him a slave to
anyone who ordered him around.
