Explanation of the conversion: In robot form he can fly slowly, but in jet car form he can travel quickly on the ground.

History (Marvel comics): Lightspeed and the Technobots were among the Autobots who joined Fortress Maximus in leaving Cybertron for the planet Nebulos (Transformers: Headmasters #1).

Followed to Nebulos by the Decepticons under Scorponok, Fortress Maximus' band left Nebulos for the planet Earth (Transformers: Headmasters #4).

Lightspeed was present when Grimlock fought Blaster for leadership of the Autobots on Earth's moon. The Autobots were then attacked by the Decepticons lead by Ratbat (Transformers #41).

Starscream attacks the Technobots in Transformers #50 Lightspeed and the other Technobots were severely damaged by Starscream when he gained cosmic powers from the Underbase (Transformers #50).

Widely admired for his intelligence, dashing good looks and cool headedness, Lightspeed is thought to be the model Autobot soldier, but Lightspeed thinks otherwise... for beneath that shiny chrome and steel exterior beats the fuel pump of a tormented soul. Although he appreciates the vital function he fulfills in his ground vehicle mode - processing data and shuttling it to various Autobot bases - he longs to take leave of the surface world and fly. His secret ambition is to explore the vast gulfs of space and uncover the mysteries of the universe, but before he can ask Autobot Command to use its scarce resources to reconstruct him into an interstellar spacecraft, Lightspeed realizes that the Autobots must first win their war against the Decepticons, and until that day, Lightspeed will continue to fight... and to dream.

Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Lightspeed is played by actor Danny Mann. On the Transformers television series the Technobots were created by the Dinobot Grimlock to fight the Terrorcons when Grimlock temporarily gained super-intelligence. Lightspeed shouldn't be condused with Lightspeed II, an Autobot who turns into a car. There are Chinese made knockoffs of Lightspeed.

Lightspeed Powers: Lightspeed is very brave. In vehicle mode, Lightspeed can accelerate from 0 to 500 mph in 8 seconds, with an average cruising speed of 300 mph. His range is 2,500 miles. He carries two side-mounted, independently targetable plasma blasters. In robot mode, he wields a proton rifle with a magnetic sight that locks on to iron-bearing targets, such as most enemy Decepticons. He becomes the lift leg when he combines with his fellow Technobots Afterburner, Nosecone, Scattershot and Strafe to form the super-robot Computron.

Lightspeed sometimes utilizes a standard Autobot jet pack.

Weaknesses: Lightspeed has an allergic reaction to energon, the primary fuel source of all Transformers, and to most other fuels as well, but to a lesser degree. He must always take a special lead sulfide additive when refueling. Otherwise, his engine experiences severe knocking and he'll break out in a rust rash. Lightspeed's personality puts him at odds with fellow Technobot Strafe.
