Explanation of the conversion: I decided to give Goldbug a small gun just so he had some sort of weapon. I based his size on an issue of the Marvel Transformers comic book where it stated that Bumblebee was 15 feet tall.
History (Marvel comics): Although the Autobot Bumblebee's body was destroyed (in G.I. Joe and the Transformers #1) his spark was still intact. A new body similar to the old one but improved, was built by Ratchet and Mainframe. Bumblebee resisted assuming his old role again. His brush with death had changed him: he was no longer willing to play the part of the cute, wisecracking "little brother." He no longer enjoyed the other Autobots' often patronizing attitude toward him, nor did he accept it. He now had a more serious even darker side. Some might say he matured. So rejecting much of his old self, he also rejected his name, Bumblebee. He wanted a new identity to go along with his new body. He chose Goldbug. He's more assertive now a change reflected in his promotion to the Autobot's Espionage Director. He's still a very engaging, affable fellow, but sometimes he can get downright gloomy when he's working, so much so that others are put off by him. He no longer feels other would like him to. He is no longer
interested in gaining their acceptance. He has come to realize that what others think about him is not nearly as important as what he thinks about himself, and lately, he generally fells very good about himself and thankful that he has another chance.
Goldbug was severely injured by Starscream when he gained cosmic powers from the Underbase (Transformers #50).
Eventually Autobot medic Ratchet rebuilt Goldbug using an experimental Pretender shell, and he became Pretender Bumblebee.
''C'mon, Huffer, get with it! I only require a drop of fuel to run, so I'm going to explore this whole planet -- especially since the Ark said so much of it is water, and Bumblebee's little levers love a good swim.'' - Bumblebee, Transformers #1
Trivia: On the Transformers television show, the voice of Goldbug is
played by actor Dan Gilvezan.
Powers: The formerly weak and fragile Bumblebee is now very strong and durable for his size as Goldbug, and he's
just as brave and smart as he ever always was.
Goldbug is even more fuel-efficient now than he had been as Bumblebee. He gets up to two and a half times
more use out of a unit of energeon than any other Autobot. He's faster and has greater range. He has extremely good
vision, better even than Optimus Prime. He can spot an object at 48 miles away on a clear day. He's an excellent
eavesdropper. He now also has improved hearing. He can hear a pin drop on the other side of a foot-thick concrete wall.
He is adaptable to underwater cold and hot environments. He has a peak efficiency operating range from -150 to +180 degrees
Fahrenheit. He carries a laser pistol and can utilize a standard Autobot jet pack.
Weaknesses: Goldbug only carries minimal firepower. He isn't as fast as most Autobot cars.
